Now, this is from one the setlists I swiped, and it doesn't help that I only know songs from GPUWS and TCH, but I'm pretty sure they played two or three more songs that weren't on this setlist. Out of defiance, I suppose, because Eugene kept calling the sound guys who were at the back of the venue fascists (well, he kept doing the 'hitler mousache+salute' gesture :p). I assumed they were gesturing at him to get off the stage. God I wish I'd paid more attention to how many extra songs they played. I hope someone more knowledgeable who's following them from town to town was at this gig as well and will share the info...
It was a great gig but something happened that was almost a dealbreaker for me tbh... Before they launched into Sulukule Eugene made a little speech about it and a bunch of guys kept chanting "PALA TUTE, PALA TUTE" all through it (this was after they had played it), and I realize the topic is near and dear to his heart and this was absolutely a stupid and annoying thing that these guys did, but my god, he must've called them dumb motherfuckers like five times! Shut the fuck up, you dumb motherfuckers, I don't give a fucking fuck what you want, don't you I understand I don't give a fuck about what you're chanting, etc, etc. They weren't heckling him or anything, they were just a bunch of dumb drunk guys who probably only knew that one song, so I felt that amount of viciousness was uncalled for.
Of course he could've had a multitude of other indirect reasons for snapping like that us concert-goers begin can't even begin to guess at. But I know that I'm not the only one who snapped out of their happy daze when that happened and couldn't quite get back into it.
Ah well. The happy daze was pretty amazing while it lasted. <3 |

Does anyone know why Educate Thy Neighbor wasn't included on TC Hustle (album)? That song is EPIC and very appropriate being that Sulukule is the "gypsy part of town" in Istanbul....
Luckily I can listen to this song anytime on YouTube.... BUT it would have been awesome if it had been on TC Hustle... |

| afaik they wrote it back in 2009 and performed it (in sulukule as well) to protest the tear down of the neighborhood, and it was probably too region-specific to include on TCH. |

I don't think it was that, tbh. They recorded a lot of songs during the TCH studio sessions and it just didn't end up making the cut.
I'm hoping Educate Your Neighbour will show up again on a future record though! _________________ turn frustration into inspiration... |

I don't think it's too region specific... I mean they sing about Pernambuco, which is a Brazilian state... I've never heard of that place until GB sung about it...
I think singing about obscure regions is a big part of GB's lyrical awesomeness! |
