Maybe a lame, stupid question but very important for me to know in order to keep my sanity... 
I am extremely curious about something!
On facebook there are several profiles calling themself Eugene Hutz.
Is anyone of these the real deal?

I sent a friendrequest to this one above a couple of weeks ago and I just cant figure out if its real or not. Im pretty sure its not but you never know... You know... I would´nt wanna risk offending THE GREAT Eugene and I hate looking like a fool to... I have done some really intense research in this and im still very much confused... I mean, I dont know the real bloke, but some things he says on his profile could be E and some things are really questionable... Me and another girl started to question the authenticy of the profile on his log and were responded with "Dont bother me..." whereupon the whole post was deleted. Very fishy indeed... And now i really, really, need to be sure! Im like 99,99% sure but i need to be 100%. If this is some copycat he is quite the dedicated one i must say...
Please let me know if its possible! 
Thomas Gobena has ONE profile on facebook btw and I am pretty sure that that is the real thing. That guy seems to be such a sweetheart! <3 |

Eugene does not have a Facebook profile to the best of my knowledge. I don't know what email address your guy uses for his profile, but it's not Eugene's.
The Gogol Bordello fan page (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/gogolbordello?ref=ts) is a genuine band one and the MamaDiaspora Twitter account is Eugene's personal one (http://twitter.com/mamadiaspora), both of which you should feel free to add without worrying; but apart from that, I'd assume the FB personal pages are all fakes.
I will make 100% sure though. I could be wrong!

Okay, the official word on the matter is NO, this not a genuine account. Neither are any others registered in Eugene's name on Facebook. Don't be fooled! 
He also doesn't have a personal MySpace, in case anyone is pretending to be him there.
The only official thing he has is his Twitter. The GB fan page on Facebook I linked to above is real, and the band MySpace is real, but certainly no personal pages in Eugene's name.
I've made this a sticky thread so other people see it and don't get taken in by a fraudulent account.

Eugene "the real deal" Hütz has no personal facebook or myspace profile, so none of them are genuine. As long as it's a fan page/group and not a profile like you or I would have, then it's fine! As far as I know, you create those differently. I've never done anything like that from scratch so I couldn't tell you for sure.

You can make fan-pages or groups who are not like a profile on FB. There are several fan-pages for Eugene there, that I know. Make a cool one!
I really like the official Gogol Bordello band fanpage on FB. It´s great! Best sticking to those kind of things. Many weirdos in cyberspace indeed! Cant figure out their agenda but, well, I dont really care...  |

The first link is a fan page. It's by no means official, but given that it's *not* a profile it's totally legit and fine to friend (as long as you know it isn't an official GB page).

I'm amazed so many people are taken in by these. And further to that, that so many people don't seem to care they're fake! Is it worth some fraudster having access to your details just so you can claim all this fake kudos of being 'friends' on Facebook with a band member?

I realized people are super shallow on facebook, they want to add you and stalk on you and your life but never really "talk" to you. At least that's my experience, none of my real friends are on there. But good to hear others have better experiences with it. Haha now I rambled oops.

personally all the games on fb suck, esp. farmville. also what sort of creep makes a fb page for someone else, pretending to be someone else!?! also why do all of us seem to think the real Eugene, god of the mustache, would friend any of us.
You'd send him a message like;
"Hey Eugene, remember me? I was at the show in NYC last night! I was the one that jumped alot and yelled "YEAH EUGENE!" at the end. Remember? ..."
Seriously, why would he also the idea of Yuri on farmville i could totally see. but also leave Tommy T alone! the idea of all of us fans trying to meet these guys like this and shit is sorta of c\reepy and weird in my opinoun. sure i'd love to meet them, but i wouldn't stalk them on fb.

I'd think when someone is so connected to a tribe, having a personal page would be the furthest thing from their mind. We all see Eugene as the success, but I think he sees a group of like minded people bonded together and he believes in Gogol Bordello. I'm guessing what little time he has for the internet would be spent for the tribe, and not for the ego.

Now I feel a little less left out about not having a FB or Twitter (and why would I have a twitter, I'm female. XD).
Eugene, the entire band, they are all a group of wonderful people doing miracles for the world one song at a time.

| i am curious though this may be another stupid question...is there any known way to message him...i dont think you can really do that on twitter..just following his updates seems more creepy than trying to actually talk to him...i met him at the last show in charlotte..hung out with everyone and met some really cool people so i wanted to reconnect....honestly while yes they are amazing successful people who inspire many they are pretty personable people and i enjoyed talking to them without drooling all over them like im sure so many do..but i i never got any contact info as they were tangled up in the crowds and other conversations too..either way im sure ill see them again at another show...just curious about the whole internet connection possibilty. |

Even if you could message him, he probably wouldn't respond. He'd get a million of them a day, He probably *does* get a million of them a day.
He seems to enjoy spending time with fans, the afterparties and DJing and such, and people are always on Tumblr and shit saying "OMG EUGENE HUGGED ME" and stuff, and that's very very very generous...
But you know there's only 24 hours in a day, he can't be EVERYONE's bestest friend evar....
