It was SUCH a good gig![/quote]

It was the best one I've seen. I saw them in Brescia, Italy and Prague, Czech Republic this year but it was nothing like yesterday.

English audience is the best. I'll never forget english youngsters dancing ukrianian kolomyjka or vie of people of all races and ages united by music of Gogol Bordello

I almost can't believe how good it was!
I mean, I've been going to see this band on a regular basis for over two years now - HOW is it possible that the first gig was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen and yet they get better every single time?!

And yeah, I was really impressed with the audience. I got massively squashed, but no bruises, which is a first.

Oh man, I love Gogol Bordello. So so much. Mr. Green

It was an almost identical set list to the Prague gig, which was all good because it meant Eugene in a wig and heels again Very Happy amazing show, I'm shocked at how there was no shoving or twattery, even at the very front. Everyone was dancing and clapping and the seating upstairs looked like a massive party by the end, it was just incredible. The energy was electric... it was impossible not to have a good time!

That was my fifth GB gig (do festivals count?!), and I am never disapointed, if anything the gigs keep getting better and better... Even with a broken collar bone I was still right up the front, and managed to get a kiss or two off the band.

Atmosphere was fab, just like normal, one huge party! I love us Gogol fans!

Thanks

This time I will be up the front somewhere. The Brighton venue is a great venue. Capacity about 1200 people so should be a bit different. Had planned to stay down there but my computer blew up on Saturday so I have to buy a new one Sad
I am staying in Nottingham for that gig (Hotel room in the Hilton for £36 Very Happy 400 meters from the venue.

Wish I was going to the Norwich gig

Heh. I'm going to Norwich, so we can be jealous of each other! Are they playing the Dome in Brighton? Or have they upgraded to the Centre?

Last year I was sure they were playing the Centre, or that the Dome was also called the Centre, and so I booked us all into a hostel just down the prom. When we got there, it was dark and shut and I realised it was a completely different place and none of us had any idea where they were actually playing, which was fun at the seaside in the middle of winter, gale force winds a-blowing... Luckily, we decided to walk up towards the station and saw some people in GB t-shirts. They took us all the way there and then went off to the pub, their original destination. I love Gogol fans. Smile

Aah, cool. It's a weird one, that - I think it's a theatre most of the time. It's a bit cavenous and souless till you get into the actual hall, as far as I remember. But I enjoyed the gig there last time. I wanna go!

I'm such a spoilt brat... Rolling Eyes

OK so now that Alison doesn't want financial assistance for running this excellent forum, but it looks like GB need some help in purchasing FIRE Buckets!

EMERGENCY APPEAL
Do you have £35 ($70)spare?
Your £35 ($70) donation will buy the band one fire bucket; £140 ($280) will allow the band to go on touring with 4 red buckets with FIRE on the side.

The band really do need your help - the way that car's selling on ebay it's only going to be enough for one fire bucket and that'd be sad.

They haven't played that at any of my other gigs so far, I don't think. Maybe they played it in Amsterdam, but I don't remember it at Prague, Copenhagen or Gothenburg.

Then again, my brain has been turned to mush by all the airports, late-night beer and Gogol-overdose, so what do I know? Wink

It's possible it has;))
They definitely played it in Prague (I remember it as we were talking with friends about it after gig) and it was one of the last tunes of the evening

Comparing to gig in Brescia, Italy three months ago it looks like they don't play "Sally" anymore. And they also played Santa Marinella there - no doubt why Wink)

Woah, really good pics too!

Although that set list can't be right, because it doesn't have Dub the Frequencies of Love. Maybe they weren't planning to play it, and then ended up having such a great time, they just chucked it in!

by now i think that if we ever needed to pull miramira out of a police line-up (for whatever reason) we could just ask everyone to drop their pants and then we'd know. Wink

Usual Guardian accuracy - GB are in Glasgow tomorrow night! Still a far more favourable review than The Times. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight.

It kinda put my teeth on edge a little...

Eugene Hutz has emerged as one of the more unlikely celebrities of the year. As the frantic lead singer of this self-styled "Gypsy punk revolution" band, he has picked up a BBC Radio 3 World Music award, expanded his following with appearances at Glastonbury and other summer festivals, and is now on his longest ever UK tour.

Anyone else feel a bit itchy about that paragraph, or am I just too sensitive?

Awesome gig on Saturday at Hammersmith.
Did anyone else have their pic taken by some photographers outside the venue? I was too drunk to ask who they were and am looking to hunt some photos down.

My sensitivity about this is more about the fact I think it belittles the rest of the band a bit. Yes, yes, Eugene's the lead singer. Yes, he's the one who gets the most attention. But he is on his longest ever UK tour? No, Gogol Bordello are. The band. Not Eugene and his session musicians, the band, Gogol Bordello.

Yes, it's not a normal band when there's a leader and the other members are just the background, but this is a group of individuals from all over the world, united under the name of Gogol Bordello.

It always makes me cringe when there's the obligatory, unimaginative Borat/Iggy Pop comparison. Really? That's all a miriad of journalists can come up with?

This bit pissed me off too:

he was more like a camp answer to Iggy Pop, and his mostly young and mostly female followers clawed at him every time he jumped down into the crowd.

It makes it sound like the gig was just all screaming little fan girls, which is so far from being true it's unreal!

It's lazy journalism.

It really is. You only have to glance at that Baro Foro video on YouTube to see how many guys were at that gig. I felt a bit outnumbered by men down the front, actually!
